PREPARATION

30 min

MATERIAL

Rice, Food coloring, Metallic acrylic paint, Vinegar, Baking sheet, Metal picker, Olive wood scoop, Sensory bin

  1. Prepare the Rice: Dye the rice with food coloring according to your preferred colors. Once dyed, add metallic acrylic paint for a shiny finish. Shake well to coat evenly.
  2. Dry the Rice: Spread the rice on a baking sheet and bake at 250°F (120°C) for 10-15 minutes. This step helps dry the rice and kills any potential bacteria.
  3. Add Scent (Optional): Once cooled, mix in scented oils like lavender or orange for added sensory appeal. Store in an airtight jar to keep the scent longer.
  4. Set Up the Bin: Place the metallic rice and (optionally black beans) in a sensory bin or tray. Add fine motor tools like metal pickers, bamboo tongs, and an olive wood scoop.
